The other day we talked about storage solutions for small kitchens, today I want to talk about decluttering the kitchen. It’s really hard to get organized when you have too much stuff! It’s amazing how much junk can hide in the kitchen cabinets. Pulling everything out into the open will give you an idea of how much stuff you really have and you may uncover a lot of unused items that you can toss.

Step 1: Pull all your dishes out into the open! l like to work on dinning-ware first and then cookware separately

Step 2: Sort, toss, and donate! I’ve found for myself that if I wait to sell items online or at a garage sale I never get to it. I’m much better off dropping my donations at the local thrift store. I get the job done quickly and I know that the thrift store is helping people in need. Of course some items aren’t donation worthy, like broken dishes and Tupperware that’s missing pieces. Those items go straight to the trash or recycle bin.

You can use this chart to help you decide what to keep and what to toss. Copy of How to Declutter Kitchen Stuff

Here are 10 things that you can definitely donate or toss today! Even if you aren’t ready to do a full kitchen purge you can pull these items out and get rid of them!

Step 3. Wipe down your kitchen shelves. While you have everything out of the cabinets it’s the perfect time to wipe the shelves out. If you use shelf paper you may want to put some fresh paper in now.

Step 4. Arrange your KEEP items back in the cupboards. Be sure to keep like items together. Also try to place your most frequently used items within easy reach.
